In the Valentine spirit I thought I might recall some past memories
of one of the many mental photographs I never got a chance to write
about...
The Taj Mahal
We spent last Valentine’s day at a place some would call the
“World’s largest love story”, the Taj in India. Amidst the
thousands of tourists who came to look upon the grandeur of her
ivory white marble slabs, we wandered in awe. There were endless
tiny details of hand carved designs filled with precious stone.
When you hold up a light to the precious stones like rubies,
emeralds and sapphires, you can see them become illuminated with a
depth of color that emanates wealth. Every inch of this mausoleum
for a lost beloved seemed filled with care, thought and love.
I was a little surprised at what it was like to see the Taj in
person in that it was smaller than I would have imagined, not that
it was at all small. One thing I unexpectedly appreciated a lot
was what it was like to enter the Taj. It was like walking through
layers of huge Indian doilies. Walt Disney would have enjoyed it.
When the sun set, the color of the marble and the river passing by
mirrored the burning colors of the sky with glory. Then something
even more magical happened. A blueness took over. It was like the
entire world was blue for a little while, the ground, marble
buildings, sky, ponds, river...it was such a warm mystical feeling.
