Happy Summer Solstice!
From a never ending Autumn to middle winter to middle summer.......
After the longest Autumn of my life (from Sweden in August down riding the Autumn wave through much of central and southern Europe until Spain in November and December) we started the long stuff collecting journey back from Granada to Madrid, flew up to Berlin for a super quick journey through the city collecting our many things. In Berlin it was a nice mild winter, the warmest in years. Although not exactly warm, it is still Berlin in the winter, I wonder what kind of luck I had being there last year for their supper cold winter and not for a warmer one like this year? It felt like we had been packing for over a week over and over again by the time we got on a plane to London. That was a quick 20 hour visit with a great guy named Alex that I met on a train 9 years ago...and it was back to Heathrow. If you have heard how difficult airports are now, let me assure you that Heathrow is at the top of the airports to avoid! Most (and I do mean about 40 or 50% of the passengers in the lines around us) of the passengers were missing their planes due to security check after security check (you even had to go through a special one that took an hour if you were coming off of a plane trying to change terminals and go and ask a question at the front check in desk that is not even a secured part of the airport!).
Anyway...another 22 hours or so on a plane with a stop over in Hong Kong, and presto manifesto, we arrived in the middle of summer in Oz (Australia). I do have to say that it was one of the better plane rides of my life. Not only was it nice to have company of such a long flight, but they had this amazing entertainment center! Each person had their own personal screen and could control what they wanted to watch or play. There were hundred of T.V. shows on demand as well as great movies. You could play video games or watch alternative programing, watch interesting travel documentaries or current movies from Oz of the US. Wow, I know I sound like a commercial, but it was so great it made me want to fly more to explore the great shows! (It would take easily a few laps around the planet to watch most of what they had to offer.) Jet lag finally caught up with me and I slept for nearly the first time in our 48 hour journey from Berlin, so I slept for a day or so upon arrival.
Anyway, I arrived here about 2 weeks ago, and things have been slowing down. We don't have a computer around much but I'll write when I can. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Ours was rainy and a bit chilly which is surprising considering it is supposedly the middle of summer (it was sunny at times but got down to 9 C at night which is the same temperature it was in Berlin when we left), but no complaints from me. I'm starting to prefer it to be cold to really really hot, which it can be here this time of year. We had a lovely organic, bio dynamic, genetically modified free Christmas lunch with half of Joel's mum and family (at a fancy restaurant), and a nice lobster dinner with Joel's dad. It has been nice to meet them all and exchange lots of lovely gifts.
Lots of love and Merry Christmas!
